Sue Smith is a senior healthcare executive with HCA International and is currently the Chief Executive Officer at the Princess Grace Hospital in Central London. She trained as a registered nurse at University College Hospital and had a number of clinical and managerial positions at University College and Guys Hospital. She left the National Health Service to join AMI as a Director of Nursing at the Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury and then became the Executive Director of that hospital one year later. Her next position was as Chief Executive at the Portland Hospital for Women and Children for 10 years before moving to The Princess Grace Hospital.
Sue’s clinical background has given her particular insights into a number of clinical issues and has encouraged entrepreneurial developments at all levels of the hospitals that she has led. In particular her work in Infection
Control while at Guys has left her with the determination to ensure that the HCA Group leads the way in effective management of infection control. She has been the Chair of the Risk Management Steering group of HCA for a number of years and this encompasses both clinical and non clinical areas of risk management across the group. She sits on a number of committees that are planning the strategies for disaster management and business resilience across the capital.
Sue is a Trustee of the HCA International Foundation which provides travelling Fellowships to doctors to enhance knowledge and practical application of new technology across a range of specialties for the improvement of patient care across all sectors of acute health provision. She is a Council Member of the Independent Doctors forum as a Corporate Sponsor and meets regularly with clinician members across the City.
